Special Needs Planning

The needs of disabled children/adults and their families have been a special interest of Noreen Costelloe's for some time. This led her to become involved with Helping Hand of Countryside, Illinois, which in turn, increased her knowledge and awareness of and desire to assist these groups.

Fortunately, there are government programs which provide some ongoing assistance and support to the disabled, because very few families could bear the full financial cost incurred by a family member with disabilities. When additional resources come into play, such as a personal injury suit settlement or inheritance, there is grave concern about discontinuance or ineligibility for necessary government assistance.

With careful planning and the use of a Special or Supplemental Needs Trust, these assets may be held for the disabled person, without causing any disruption in government programs. There are strict laws governing the administration of these trusts. They are meant to be used to provide resources not covered by government funding for the disabled person, such as modifying a house or apartment to meet their particular needs.
